Teaching Assistant

The successful candidate will join a committed staff team focused on delivering the Curriculum for Wales, with an emphasis on creativity, literacy, numeracy, and pupil well-being.

As a Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils aged 7–11 years (Years 3–6) on a full-time basis. You will work alongside the class teacher to enhance learning, provide targeted support, and help pupils overcome barriers to education—particularly those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

Classroom Support:

• Assist the teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
• Prepare and organise classroom materials and learning resources
• Support pupils during whole-class teaching, group work, and independent tasks
• Help maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment

Pupil Support:

• Provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs (e.g. literacy difficulties, behavioural challenges)
• Support small intervention groups in areas such as reading, writing, and numeracy
• Encourage pupil independence, confidence, and engagement
• Help manage behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy

Person Specification:

Essential:

• Experience working with children in an educational or care setting (minimum of 6 months)
• Good understanding of the Key Stage 2 curriculum
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
• Patient, empathetic, and flexible approach

Desirable:

• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
• Knowledge of the Curriculum for Wales
